Was waiting for you to post a reaction. And I know exactly what you mean, a little underwhelmed. I think being afraid of Clint (or someone else) dying ANY SECOND NOW! was a little distracting. And I totally agree with you about the missing scenes, there should have been more discussion and maybe more verbal fights. And maybe they could have left out a few action sequences. But def there were a few missing scenes. Need. To. Watch. Again. Maybe we need to wait for the Director's Cut, though.
Looks like there won't be a director's cut, however, there wil be many, many deleted scenes on the DVD.
But, yeah. It felt a little like many ideas were started and then forgotten in favour of more action. I'm really happy about Clint's arc, but Thor's was completely ... uh, what? And, wow, okay, there's talk of the Hulk being tried for the destruction after the fight with Iron Man, but there's not talk of Tony being tried because he created Ultron? That doesn't make sense.
I think you said it in your own reactions to the movie ... it felt like the movie lacked it's Joss-ness. I mean, the jokes were there and the witty one-liners, but the heart ... there should have been more heart, more character development (though when it was there (see Bruce and Natasha), then it packed a painful, powerful punch) and less perfectly choreographed fights. But, still. Next time watching it, there will be lowered expectations, and maybe that'll help.
Wait until you read my thoughts on it. It's hilariously parallel to yours, down to using the same phrase. I didn't know about the moving being cut down, but it explains how disjointed it is. It's ridiculous that they made Whedon cut it down though and purely about money. They want a shorter movies so they can cycle more showings per day, because it could have been four hours and all of us would have been there to see it.
