I was going to make comments, but you basically said everything. Yes.
OH but here's something that I've been thinking on. I was trying to put my finger on what really bugs me about Piper and it's because she's your typical atypical teen. But RR is AMAZING at coming up with the greatest characters ever who are never stereotypical at all. And then there's Piper. And I think I would like her so much more if she were... so much more. I feel like i already know everything there is to know about her. =/
Yeah, I can completely get on board with that. I just felt she was so predictable and I've seen her before and I hope RR fleshes her out more because I've loved all his characters prior to this book so I'm hoping it was just a fluke.
Oh man totally not reading this review because I still haven't finished the book, but I'm totally stoked that someone else on my flist reads this! yay! :D
I thought so too, and then I read this book. And we were right that Percy is the lost hero but he's not the titular Lost Hero, that would have to be Jason. So it's not a red herring but at the same time it totally is because we all thought it would be about saving Percy.
The overarching plot isn't exciting me too much yet and it seems very similar to Kronos
That's true. But this is essentially Greek creation myths. Ouranos was overthrow by Kronos, Kronos was overthrow by Zeus, and Gaia then decided to return the Earth to nothing/its primordial state. She failed, of course, but there was always a danger of Zeus being overthrown. So that's what RR's playing with. Also, everytime I think "Okay, what can he POSSIBLY do next?" I'm always surprised xD
Oh, I didn't really think it'd be about saving Percy. When the first two chapters were released, I knew the title was a reference to Percy and Jason but I figured it'd be all about Jason given that he's our new protagonist. I mean, RR can throw us for loops and I feel like the title isn't that obvious but I still want Percy. 8D
Oh, yes, I know! I know the stories of Gaia and Greek mythos and whatnot, I was just a little underwhelmed by its setup is all, I think. As I said, I have complete faith in RR so I'm just eager for the next book already.
ITA about Jason. I finished the book and he still hasn't caught my attention. WHERE IS HIS PERSONALITY?! WHY U SO BLAND? D: I can't relate to him because there's nothing to relate to. I mean, I know he lost his memories, but I would have loved if there was more to him besides a kid who has been destined to save the world
( ... )
Yeah, my main issue with Piper was that she was moaning about the same thing for the entire book and it got very tiring and old, very fast. But I think if RR writes the rest of the series right, she can prove to be an interesting character. And maybe even make Jason more appealing. But we'll see!
At least we have Leo. BECAUSE YES OMG LEO. MY FAVOURITE FOREVER AND FOREVER AND FOREVER. He makes the trio more interesting as a whole. When he's there, I'm 100 times more interested and grinning like an idiot and yes. NEED MORE LEO IN MY LIFE.
Yeah, with the info that's been released about SoN and just...comment sense, it has to be talking about Percy. Which definitely makes me happy BECAUSE I MISS OUR LITTLE DEMIGOD BOY WONDER. HE'S SO WONDERFUL AND I MISS HIM SO.
ldkjdklgjkl me too. I just want my man Hades back, really. /bitter
