I'm glad you liked The Damned United! I knew virtually nothing about the film or its subject going into it, but I'm so glad I took a chance and saw it. Michael Sheen certainly deserves to be recognized for his performance. He captured Clough's arrogance while still making him sympathetic.
I would have been hard pressed to dislike it, I think, but it was fabulous. I knew nothing about Clough, just present-day football, but it definitely impressed. To be honest, arrogance isn't necessarily a train I find unattractive but Clough had some down moments and, as you said, Sheen was expertly able to make him seem sympathetic still. I very much hope he gets recognized. :D
