EEEEEEE! I totally said that Col. Brandon looked like Liam Neeson in my S&S review/picspam too! Hee, I heart Brandon so much, and I was pleasantly surprised by the new adaptation. It was much more true to the book, I thought.

The only Austen novel I haven't read is Mansfield Park b/c 30 pgs. in I was so bored I gave up. I was surprised at how different the two movie versions were, but then I realized they had to spice the theatrical version up alot b/c the book's so damn boring. ;)

Catherine and Henry win the cute young luvahs award, for reals.

I actually really liked Persuasion, the novel. The movie's really awesome too, but like you said, it had Rupert, and he's quite easy on the eyes. ;)

The S&S adaptation was by far my favourite. It was true to the novel and wonderfully made all around. David Morrissey totally does look like Liam Neeson. >>;

I haven't read it in ages and I remember having a terribly hard time getting through it. I want to re-read it to see if I may be able to appreciate it more but I'm afraid to start. XD

They totally do. So freaking adorable.

Well, to each his own. I was never able to get into Persuasion so there you are.

The book is definitely quite adorable and I was terribly smitten with the new adaptation. Nowhere near my squee over the new S&S but it was still flail worthy. I just love Catherine and Henry's naivety and it makes them so cute.

Emma is by far my favourite Austen novel and the Northam/Paltrow version makes me squee every time. It wasn't necessarily that the Beckinsale version was bad, just that it didn't feel like Emma. You must read it. Now.

I feel the same way about both of them. They're me two least favourites but my friend told me I may be able to appreciate Persuasion later on.

I'm glad you liked it! It certainly does seem like Northanger Abbey is beating out the rest.

That's one of the many things I love about Catherine is that she is easy to relate to. I've started re-reading Northanger Abbey and I've fallen in love with her and Henry all over again.

Mkay. Well, when you do, let me know what you think because that novel is the one that I'm always able to turn to. There's just so much heart in it.

The 1995 P&P is brilliant! I own both and love both but it all depends on how much you're willing to invest. When I first watched the 1995 version, I split it up instead of watching six straight hours. The 2005 version is beautiful but there's nothing quite like the 1995 version.

'I'M ON UR TV MAKING EDWARD FERRARS FREAKING TEH SECKS WITH MY BEAUTIFUL BLUE EYES LIEK OMG.'

I think this made be the best line regarding Austen ever written on LJ. I ROFLMAOed so hard.

I stuck with Emma for most of my answers in the poll. It is a hard call, but Emma has been my favourite for so long that I just can't stray. I adored the new S&S. I think because it had more time, it covered its plot a lot better than the film, but the film did graet with the time that it had. I always was a bit sad that the progression of Marianne/Brandon didn't get much screentime in the film, and it felt as if Marianne went from not really liking him to being in love with him very suddenley. While in the new version you get the impression that she still likes him even if she initially doesn't see him as a suitor. And I'd agree, Willoughby wasn't handled all the well either.

OMG. JJ FEILD, I LOVE HIM. If you like him, watch The Ruby in the Smoke & The Shadow in the North with him and Billie Piper. His character is total love ( ... )

I'm glad you liked that line so much. XDD It was pretty much my thought process when I saw Dan Stevens.

You and I seem to be the only ones voting for Emma but that's all right. I can't stray as well - Emma just has so much heart.

Time is of the essence with movies, especially ones adapted from novels. The film was well-made and I enjoy it for the most but because it's not as long, it doesn't have the development that the new version does. I agree with everything you've said and the new version, because of time, got to explore Marianne's developing feelings for Brandon. We were able to see with our own eyes that she was beginning to fall for him whereas in the film that was completely missing.

Ooh, I will definitely look that up. JJ Feild is definitely all kinds of love.

You should say so much more. :D

David Tennant is 37? That's what 37 looks like? Because Col. Brandon is suppose to be 35, so damn, David Morrissey really was too old for the part!

I totally love that scene at the ball where he grabs her as she's falling, though. V. manly :)

Henry Tilney picking apples for the win!

David Morrissey is also in his forties. He might look a bit old but I though he handled Brandon brilliantly so I thought nothing of his looks. He had me smitten.

Indeed! That or the scene where she places her hand on his after he rescues her is my favourite scene between Brandon and Marianne.

HECK YES.

What a fantastic post!!! I really enjoyed reading what you thought of all the novels and looking at all those gorgeous pictures. I have to say that I absolutely adored the adatation of Persuasion. I thought Sally Hawkins was tremendous in the role of Anne and I loved the kiss at the end between her and Frederick, which caused me to melt into a pile of goo :)

JJ Feild in Northanger Abbey = LOVE!!!

Well, to each his own! I'm glad you liked my post and my friend suggested I may be able to appreciate Persuasion a little more later on. It was a well-made and enjoyable adaptation, though.

YES!
