What's a scribe without a quill?

Jul 10, 2008 09:35

Pesky obstacles like inspiration aside, I need a specific environment to write. Means: MY laptop. My 1950s doctor's desk with glass cabinet. My books close by. Music (or TV, it depends). Emma watching (if she's not chasing Charlie). And most of all: NO AUDIENCE. I absolutely hate it when people stand behind me, sit next to me or simply watch me ( Read more... )

*grins* Congrats!

Looks a lot like my Mom's computer -- hers is a Dell, though.

And every time she uses it, I have to be nearby because every five minutes it's: "Chriiiiiiiiiiiiis! Why is it doing this?!"

Is awesome.

For some reason, I've never really thought of namingg my compy's, but I keep calling this one "Baby," so.... *grins and shrugs*

P.S.: Name suggestion: Lord Baltimore.

Mmmmm... he does look like a lord, but "Baltimore"...? Good idea, though, I'll give it a thought. *mwuah*

Congrats! Boswell for the printer, and Samuel for the new computer. I'd say Johnson, but that's too generic.

May you have great enjoyment with your new quill.

Great suggestions! :-D Oh dear, I see it coming, those two will end up with more names than a king! :-D

Thanks a lot, now that Vista is (mostly) behaving, I'm really having fun with it. :)

well in order to put them on a network the computers do have to be named. Some people are boring and name it "John's computer" or "Kitchen PC." My VPR is named Victor, the HP is named Harry, and the Alienware is named Monster. It makes perfect sense to me.:P

My HP has vista, you can turn off the annoying the "Allow/disallow" messages if you want to. For the most part it's not much different. It might run slow on only one gb of ram though.

Victor, Harry and Monster? That sounds like a real cool book title! :-D You're inspiring prose here.

Can you tell me where those messages can be turned off? That's one of the annoying bits I haven't figured out yet. It runs actually quite fast, faster than XP on my old laptop, but I've removed everything from the start list that I don't need.

Here's a link -http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/disable-user-account-control-uac-the-easy-way-on-windows-vista/

Microsoft doesn't want you to do this, of course, but as long as you keep normal virus protections and stuff up to date, the computer will be fine.

I heard somewhere that there is a way to get XP easily with new computers/laptops. I can't recall what brand of comp it needed to be but apparently on the website it said 'comes with genuine vista' and when you clicked on the 'genuine' it told you that genuine vista was actually XP. Go figure!!

I've named my sneakers. And that's about it. x.x (I'm actually rather surprised I've never named my laptop. Beyond referring to it as that 'ancient piece of crap')

We're currently switching to Vista at the office, anyway, so I might as well get used to that thingy now. But still, grrrr at Microsoft...

*is curious to know the names of the sneakers*

The sneakers? The right one is Sam and the left one is Joe. xP
