I almost posted this to my own LJ. Yeah, I use red ink, because the kids don't always listen when I say BLUE or BLACK ink and give me purple, pink, green, etc. So, yeah, I use red because it's convenient and because they'll actually SEE the comments.
I never had a teacher who did NOT use red. I think back in the time when I was at school (and dinosaurs still roamed this planet), teachers were actually instructed to use red, one of the reasons being, as you state, the colour of the ink the kids used.
I wrote all papers in green. with the corrections and the grade, I always got a warm, fuzzy yuletide feeling when I got them back...
Personally I prefer red because unlike the girly girls back in high school, I insisted on writing in black ink (my parents wouldn't let me write in multi-coloured inks for formal assignments and to this day, I only use multi-coloured inks when I'm writing notes). I've got a step p on this though -> I've received assignments back that I've written in pencil marked WITH pencil. Go figure that one out
uh. how very tempting to fiddling around with that...!
today I use dark blue or black ink for writing. fountain pen is the only way for me to write with people still being able to read what I wrote. I have a terrible script. I once got an assignment back and the teacher wrote "please use letters next time, not hyroglyps" on it... ouch!
back at school, I used green ink. and in some cases, joke ink which disappeared after a day. this was great fun!
