I got a lovely feedback-mail yesterday *waves in general direction of california*. the lady who sent it only recently found my tales, read them though they were "only pg-13" and liked them enough to tell me. like many others she thinks that more people would read my stories if I would write more smut and aim for a higher rating ( Read more... )

There's certainly no shortage of folks who like to tell authors what they *ought* to write. I hope you never change anything about what and how you write.

I read almost everything, from dark to light, G to NC-17, most any pairing, totally canon to totally fanon to totally some other universe. Some fics I like, many I don't like, but other readers do, simply because we're all different. I don't really feel that I can say there is a majority opinion about fanfic out there in terms of what the majority wants. All these very different readers all like different things. Certainly there are trends that become popular for awhile, but they come and go and then something else becomes trendy. There's plenty of room for everyone, which is part of why I like fanfiction. It's the freedom to write what you feel.

Yes, I feel some readers seem to want to read, basically, the same fic over and over again - to the extent of giving writers instructions on how to write it. But the online writing I enjoy ranges from canon gen fics through romantic/angsty slash to modern world extremely AU tales, and includes original fiction and stories in various very different fandoms. Really, the only thing my favourite writers have in common is that I like their stories and think they write well. And I've no problem ignoring the stuff I dislike, because there's more than enough that I do like.

so bad news for you guys: I will continue to write these tales until the day when my imagination stops giving me ideas for stories.

bad news?.. tis the best i've heard all day..

i love the way you write.. and i love that your stories are exactly the way they are..

there's already reams and reams of elf smut out there.. why add to it when yours are just as good without the graphic details..

i've said it before.. but i was oh so glad to find your stories.. to finally find lotr fiction that had a sense of humour and didn't take itself oh so seriously.. twas heavenly..

thank you for ALL of your wonderful stories.. may you write many more!..

".....yes, I write sappy "bodice rippers" (I'm in love with that term!)....."

Oh what a lovely idea! Now you MUST write a real 'bodice ripper' LOL

I love your stories, if they were smuttier they wouldn't be yours and they wouldn't be anywhere near as entertaining.

I agree with the others - great news for me. You have helped me understand this principle more than anyone else.

You write "bodice ripper" and amazing humor. I write bona fide sappy, victorian romances that always end with the collective "ahhh" of joy and flowery relief.

Like you pointed out..real life vs fiction life. I grew up in angst hell...not my idea of entertainment. You just continue on your merry way.

I will happily skip right along that yellow brick road with you all the way to the emerald city (where I'm sure Thranduil is already there, polishing the gems *grins*)

Aye, write the stories you want to write. The stories that are in your head. It matters little if their are nc-17 or not. Each writer is different, each story unique! I love your stories, your Glorfindel and Erestor and they are far from being boring, though I understand what you are trying to say when you use that term. I hope you will never run out of ideas, for I adore each story you have ever written. I love your Nonfindel, your Thranduil and my all time favorite scene is Erestor disappearing when he is about to give birth to their son, dying and Fin finding him!
