Sleepy Hollow, on the record

Yeah, the pilot was kind of exposition-heavy and overstuffed.

BUT I AM SO THERE. You cannot stop me. This is exactly the kind of ridiculousness I expected and wanted.

Behind the cut, spoilery thoughts and my live exchange with telepresence while watching...

Another comment from Tumblr that cracked me up "Stupid cops, he has no head, but he's walking and doing stuff, which makes him some kind of zombie, except unkillable, because you can't shoot him in the head, he has no head, he's a super zombie, RUN AWAY!"

The first one I might remember is McShep?

Spuffy was before McShep, I think. (Everything bad about fandom can be blamed on Spike.)

Spuffy. Yeah, that figures, doesn't it.

(I really wasn't anywhere near Buffy fandom, so I don't think I encountered it that much firsthand.)

Hrm, actually can't remember which came first -- Spuffy or Clex (Clark/Lex, but then I personally find it easy to blame everything nuts about fandom on Smallville).

Now that you people are mentioning it, those are coming back to me. *cries*

I did have someone on my flist from SG-1 fandom who was super into Clex.

What, no Crabby? Crane + Abby... Come on, people!

(My favorite portmanteaus are the ones I hear about from Glee, which all sound like embarrassing body noises, problems your television might come down with, or both: Furt, Klaine, etc.)

Mulder and Scully were so thoroughly the center of the universe that you just said M/S and everybody knew who you meant. Other characters with M or S names just had to lump it and use more letters.

I ENDORSE "Crabbie". Because dude. HE SO TOTALLY IS, TOO.

(That was part of what I liked about some of his reactions to the modern world, but forgot to mention. He's not all, "what is this strange magic?", but instead goes full on irritated "and what the hell is that?")

Soooo, are we watching this first one in a group? I mean, I was going to hold off, but then I saw this post and figured if you and telepresence had seen it already, so I just watched it.

And once I got over all the "What? How did...that doesn't work! But okay, snarky English dude can stick around, especially since he knows how to duck when shit is happening" my first thought was "WE CAN NEVER LET JANE ANYWHERE NEAR THIS." Although I guess we could make a drinking game out of it: any time you wonder if there was even one editor anywhere near the script, take a drink. Or maybe it would be safer to be drinking only when you don't think that.

Anyway, I'll give it my usual "you have three episodes to get over pilot-itis," since this first one did have elements I approved of and it didn't bore/horrify/etc me enough to give up here and now. But its writing choices are making me do a lot of suspicious side-eye.

I was always gonna watch it no matter what. I think we should include it on Sunday and see how Jane's head does. Perhaps she can get all the way over the hump to the "it's ridiculous *handwave*" thing, because really, you have to. This show is no more "accurate" than Buffy was, and yet, plenty of people were able to wave their hands and enjoy Buffy. You just have to not even expect accuracy.

... Or proper police procedures. That either.

I'll be interested to hear what writing choices made you side-eye.

I also have to assume that subsequent episodes won't have quite the same "quick! stuff the kitchen sink in there too!" urgency about them. I hope.

I take it you didn't watch the previews for next week, because I can tell you, it's not letting up on the BONKERS.
