Well, I have school now. You can say what you like about real-life commitments making your free time seem more valuable. The fact of the matter is that having a totally different schedule now means less time for FFXI. It’s a good thing in the long run, and Lord knows my life desperately needed some more structure, but it does mean EreBlog will be a bit less exciting until I come to terms with it. I still want to keep in the practice of writing so maybe I'll just have to elaborate on smaller topics more. Maybe bring back
EreRant, who knows.
Soloed a fair amount of BLM in the Temple of Uglydeath and Pso’Xja from 43 to 46, pretty close to 47. Both camps were right by zone lines so there was no death involved; a link just meant I’d have to depop the mobs and wait for it to resummon again. Cutting out the deaths meant exp actually became halfway respectable, especially at 46 when there were less ITs at the Pso’Xja camp. Soloing is a heck of a lot more work, but also pretty much guarantees a semi-constant rate of exp per hour. With parties though, who knows when someone’s going to DC or want to leave or someone levels up and kills the exp. So there’s nobody to help me when I’m soloing, but there’s nobody to stop me really either. All in all, I’d much prefer a good party to having to solo, but since I’ve gotten one good one in about four invites and the others were just flat-out awful, at some points I wonder why I even have my party flag up while seeking. Plus sometimes they want me to main heal with no refresh, and I've done that to death by now.
Looking forward to the level synch thing to be able to duo with other BLMs on the way up. That would be a lot more fun and a heck of a lot more safe, especially when I move to camps that don’t have nearby zone lines.
Last Nyzul meeting before the nifty Nyzul update changes, and what a night it was! As usual, like four people cancelled/didn’t show up equipped with excuses of varying decency of goodness. This time around Kisa got a couple of her friends to fill in for us - a SAM and a THF, which meant Brim could go on SAM and the rest of us filled our jobs around what we had. Total setup NIN SAM SAM THF WHM BRD. Yeah, we were pretty loaded. I decided to do 3 body runs in a row, since a lot of people want bodies and we had a strong group for it.
All three were freaky amounts of easy. We had some real simple monster family floors - psycheflayers only once, but they were all together in a small maze. We had three lamp floors, but they were all the “register your code” type so no logic puzzles necessary. We had to avoid discovery by gears once, but there was only one gear in the actual path and Kisa managed to BRD pull it without it seeing us. The eliminate all enemies floors seemed smaller and less challenging than usual. Blue magic was restricted but nobody cared since we didn’t have any BLUs. VIT was lowered but we had a NIN tank. And Kisa even got us a free floor, like our second one ever. We never even hit the 5 minute timer on any of the bosses until they were dead. As far as Nyzul random luck goes, hard to beat that.
As for the bosses themselves… congratulations to Brimah for getting Goliard body off of Cerb, congratulations to Brimah again (wtf, lootwhore) for getting Askar body off of Hydra, and congratulations to Cribe (yay Cribe’s back!) for getting Denali body off of another Hydra. 3 runs, 3 easy victories, all 3 bodies dropped. That puts our group total at 3 Askar, 1 Goliard, 1 Denali. We’re actually getting pretty close to being totally done with bodies. The sometimes-maybe members still need them, but if they don’t show up we don’t need to do any more 80 floors.
Of course, now that we have bodies coming out of our ears, plus the update making quite clear that you will need the weapons for the new weaponskills, there are tons of people on the linkshell saying they want to come on runs after the update, thinking they can get easy weapons and bodies from their friendly charitable LS nyzul group. To all of these people, I say this to you in no uncertain terms; fuck off.
You may think that’s harsh, unfairly mean. Do you know what mean is? Mean is not wanting to help out when we’re 5/6 and we’ve been looking for a member for an hour. Mean is just sitting idly by while the dedicated members of this group worked their butts off to climb this disk. Brimah leveled a whole new bloody job for it. And these leeches think they’re going to just waltz in and lot Askar bodies and SAM great katanas. Yeah. That ain’t gunna happen. If you’ve helped me in the past, we’ll talk. I remember my debts. If my group is really desperate and can’t find a member, we can make a deal perhaps. I also believe in cold, hard gil. 500k seems reasonable. Otherwise you guys can take your chances with some other group and leave us alone.
Okay, so reading it again, it IS a bit harsh. But this update changes a lot of things for me as diskholder. When I get the base weapon and the runic key, technically I’d never need to lead another Nyzul again. Of course, I’m not going to do that when the group’s going so strongly. But it does put me in a nice position to not have to deal with freeloaders on their terms. That alone makes all the effort worthwhile.
