I know a lot of people will hate this comment, but partying is dead and campaign killed it. I'm not going to sugar coat it, campaign has ruined partying. Yes, campaign has become a nice addition to new gear and a pass time. But the problem is, now it's becoming a total exp bucket for people that don't want to party with important and helpful jobs. People with whitemage and redmage at 67 are now parking their asses, /Anon, in campaign. The age of experienced endgame players is over. Now all we're going to have is a ton of players that went 65-75 riding the campaign train. Nin tank in campaign? Hope you learned how to play your job. White mage parked in campaign for 3 days? Hope you know how to heal instead of beat up fortifications. Seriously guys, seek. Stop this /anon-3-day-streak-i-dont-want-to-ever-party-or-merit-again-bullshit. Partying and merit partying are so much more effective. People only just think campaign is so awesome because..well, It's all anyone is DOING. Please guys, i want my 15-20k merit parties back, screw this
( ... )
I originally had a more bitter reply to this, but decided that you're not that wrong after all. People may not be learning their jobs in campaign, but they aren't really learning them in parties either. At least in campaign people do pseudo-suicidal things to save others because they know they won't lose exp. In an exp party, if I'm getting hit constantly and can't heal myself for some reason, no other melee makes any attempt to save me. Heck, some don't turn their characters if the mobs move - they're pretty obviously AFK while meleeing.
Campaign didn't kill parties. It sure didn't help them either. I always seek when campaigning, but lately I'm just getting total trash for exp parties that don't actually compare to the exp/hour in a hot spot zone like Grauberg was this week. For merits I definately want an exp party, but less than that, it's extremely hit and miss with the quality.
"zomg whm suxs. get rdm" "wtf cnat party w/no brd" "u guys sux. my (insert presumably lvl 75 job) did this solo" "noobs get it i solo"
Sorry, things like that put me off parties well before campaign came along. My SMN has not seen a party since my static broke, and campaign has made it more enjoyable than soloing bombs in Ifrits. And it was not just the grammar, horrible as it tends to be. It is rare to find a few good people to party with, let alone five of them. Maybe I'm the unluckiest gamer ever, but my ratio of horrible parties to decent and good parties is rather large.
For me, ToAU killed partying. It seemed like everybody wanted dual BRD (with maybe a RDM or CSR in a BRD slot) and four damage-dealing sub-NINs. On WHM, I'd only get parties from LSmates who had an empty support slot, and then I did little more than Haste everybody (with the occasional status ailment cleanup). Even then, people would way overcamp the new areas to the point that I think some of the pre-ToAU areas would give more XP, even without Sanction and the faster respawn rate. In other jobs, I didn't get my BLM up to merit level fast enough, so I got stuck around the high 50s with the only viable option to go solo pet elementals in some Altana-forsaken zone. I'd love to party, but with the jobs I want to play, it just doesn't happen.
