I'm kind of traumatized by how bright the colours are. How the hell much food colouring did you use?!

Enough to turn everyones' poop green for two days. ;)

I used an ounce of red and about a half ounce of each of the other colors of concentrated icing coloring in the frosting. In the cake, I used about a third of a 1/2 jar of candy coloring. They're not like the droppers you get at the grocery store. You have to go to a place that has cake decorating supplies. It's Wilton colors.

I warned everyone that they'd be seeing the colors again before I served the cake.

Oh my GOD, I know exactly what colourings you're talking about.

I thought about asking about the green poop factor but I decided against it. We discovered the green poop phenomenon after one of my nephew's birthday parties a few years ago. I think it was a Spiderman cake from the store with a LOT of blue frosting.

Wow, that is amazing. I'm jealous - I never had a birthday cake that cool. ;)

Seriously, I'm impressed. How'd you do it?

Wilton candy coloring for the cake, icing coloring for the icing. Make cake batter, separate into six bowls, add food coloring, spoon into baggies and seal, snip corner, pipe in circles into large (14") round pan. Bake, cool completely, cut in half, slap some icing on one half, put the other half on top.

Make icing, separate into six bowls, add icing colors, spoon into baggies, seal, cut off corner and pipe into cake. Smooth with spatula.

Easy! Though time-consuming.

For definitions of "easy" that still involve a certain amount of skill. :)

Thanks for the explanation - it would never have occurred to me to try that method! And now someday I want to.
