"The first thing that Cassie said was that her mom always said that long engagements were bad, because it can cause more issues, but I explained that most couples have to wait about two years anyway (a little exaggerated). Anyway, that definitely scared me when she said that."

Long engagement here and we're still married. Just saying.

Good luck with the talks.

How long was your engagement? Also, did either of ya'll talk to the family first?

Two years. We lived together, too, so it was a double whammy OMG.

IIRC, it was right after I got my job and I know it was at least a year since we didn't get married until we got our house - and there was a year in the apartment in between.

We did talk to the family first; I got her father's blessing before it went down.

Only (minor) issues was where we were getting married since it was inter-faith.

I always thought of long engagements as a way to make sure and have time to plan everything.

I hope the other talks go at least reasonably well. :)

I think it's really cute how you're planning everything, making sure everything will be fine before you ask her! :)

And I don't think getting married young is a bad thing as a lot of people seem to do. I mean, if you really love each other and I'm sure you do - why should you wait!?

Good luck, dear! <3

Literally, everyone in my family married, divorced, and had kids by the time that I'll be getting married (about 23 or 24). But everyone in Kim's family married their high school sweet hearts. So I don't think that her family would have a problem with the age if it wasn't for the fact that we're gay, too. We'll see, though.

And I'm glad you appreciate how hard I'm trying to make sure that everything works perfectly! haha
