Another suggestion: The way I'm drafting mine is by pasting the fic into a plain text editor, hitting "insert", and going over the stuff I want to erase by replacing the characters with spaces. :) A bit less time-consuming than white-out or scribbling out on paper, and it's not too difficult to recover the letters if you accidentally took off too much. I'm not sure if this works on Word or other processing programs; it doesn't work on Google Docs iirc.

This is a good idea. In the past, I've done it in Word or an LJ post (and saved it by posting privately), and erased sections by making the text white. That way it's still there, but you can't see it against the background.
