In which I discuss video games

Dec 12, 2010 21:22

Because holy crap, the VGAs last night just confirmed that 2011 is going to be the most epic year for gaming EVER. Besides stuff like Batman: Arkham City and The Last Guardian, which I'm already anticipating, we got our first reveals of The Elder Scrolls V and Mass Effect 3. :D ( Read more... )

red dead redemption, epicness, is my fandom showing?, mass effect, uncharted, gaming, batman

EXCUSE ME WHILE I FLAIL ALL OVER THIS BITCH. NAUGHTY DOG WHAT I CAN'T EVEN IS THIS REAL LIFE? TAKE MY FIRST BORN. JUST. I DON'T EVEN. MY FIRST BORN. HERE YOU GO.

And yeah, you have to sit back and go "wow, that's what my fucking game is going to look like." Because that's what you're fucking game is going to look like.

I KNOW! HOSHIT DUDE, IT'S UNREAL. I just don't understand. I don't know how ND continues to embarrass other developers with the sheer beauty and natural animation of their characters and environments. NO EXCUSES, DEVS. WHY AREN'T YOU ALL DOING THIS? And I don't want to hear any more "but the PS3 is haaaard to program for" whining. Bah!

Argh! I didn't know the VGA was on last night! That would have been fun to watch. Anyway, I've been wondering when Uncharted 3 would be revealed and now I know. Thanks for the videos. The teaser is drool worthy and the behind the scenes vid is fantastic! But, sadly, the performance is no longer available and I was not able to see it. : / Now I just have to check into Enslaved 'cause I'm not sure what it is. And wait a minute -- you toured Naughty Dog's studio? Did I miss that entry? o.O

Oh no! Why the hell would they remove it? Copyright issues with the song? The song's all over YouTube. The show? It was on TV for heaven's sake.

Humbug. If I find it anywhere else I'll let you know - it's truly a great song and made me think of you when I first heard it, but for some reason I didn't get around to letting you know that, haha.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is a new game that just came out for PS3/360; it's based on the classic Chinese novel "Journey to the West", just twisted around to fit a post-apocalyptic sci-fi setting, and with a reverse-enlightenment ending. Andy Serkis (Gollum in Lord of the Rings) plays the main character Monkey (as in the Monkey King) through some pretty epic performance capture technology, and the whole thing was scripted by Alex Garland, who wrote the film 28 Days Later. It's really creative and one of my favorite offerings this year, but it sadly hasn't sold too well ( ... )

Please do let me know if you see another video up and running, and I'll look for one myself in the next couple of days.

Ooooh Enslaved sounds really interesting! Too bad it's not getting great sales just yet.

Oh, you lucky...I would like to hear more about this tour sometime.

I read entries like this and marvel at the advancement video games have made while I've been... well, turning into an old man. I didn't see a floating mushroom or a warping tube ANYWHERE in that trailer! It kind of scares me about the future. Well, not the FUTURE future, but the video gaming future. Will I ever be able to jump back in? It seems teh gaming community has passed from a singl jump-rope style to double and triple dutch! WTF?!?

Ah, sigh. I miss your nerd talk.

I know! It's all much more exciting than it was back in the mushroom-and-warp-tube days - not that I don't love those as well. But now games are all cinematic and dramatic and crap, with the eye-candy thrown in as a bonus.

I also find them easier than Mario. To this day, the harder Mario levels will kick my ass! I don't know what it is. New games are far more forgiving (in general).

Nerd talk is an important part of a balanced diet!
