The trials and errors of mytheology*

*...when genre fiction and Judeo-Christian concepts collide! :D

Just got back from a late showing of Legion with some buddies. We went in expecting it to suck, and well, it did. But at least Paul Bettany was awesome! Mostly.

I really don't know what the hell the screenwriters were smoking, but I don't want any. )

Seriously! It had promise. It's not like it'd take a whole lot for me to get behind the idea of pissed-off, badass angels. I can't believe how uninspired it was.

You know, I never did finish Jericho. Really need to get around to that one of these days. I love me some Skeet Ulrich.

I miss Jericho too, but I never finished it either. Nate got mad at me because every time I would watch it, the next day I went out and bought a bunch of stuff for food storage. So I have to be closely monitored while I am watching it. Ahem.

HA. Kind of like Life As We Knew It? Oy, that book made me feel like the end of the world was freakin' NIGH.

You don't know me, but I was in that marriedlife community and I was the OP of the poly marriage question. I wanted to apologize - you're taking quite the "beating" for what you said about monogamous marriage and whatnot. I got flamed quite a bit too, but I'm seeing how that one person just won't let what you're saying about mono vs. poly go.

In any case, I am now regretting posting those questions! And props to you for remaining calm but still defending your side of things. (I've since left the community thanks to people getting all butthurt and up in arms about some of the stuff I wrote - can't handle LJ drama, lol. Personality flaw - it really puts me on the defensive). I don't necessarily agree with your stance, but I like how you're handling things.

Just felt the urge to say that. I'm sorry if this is totally out of line! :)

Hey, I really appreciate you saying that. Thanks for dropping by. :] I didn't expect so many people to get snappy about what I'd said, either - I mean, it's a loaded question. People are obviously going to have a wide range of reactions.

Sorry you got so much drama because of it... I wish people could be more mature about this stuff. You can disagree with someone without being an asshat about it.

Anyway, I'm glad you found me reasonable because I was seriously over-analyzing what I'd wrote to figure out if I was really being offensive or not. Haha.

Cheers.

Aw, man, Legion looked like it would be really cool. It's too bad it sucked instead.

Yeah, I know! After the reviews came in I was hoping for it to have at least a few redeeming qualities (I mean, I've liked plenty of critically-panned movies in my lifetime)... but nope. They got this one right, unfortunately.

I really like Constantine. Not so much the Hellblazer comics from which it was birthed.)

You may be the first person ever to have said as much in my hearing. I've heard people say they like both, that they prefer the comic, or that they haven't seen/read both so can't comment. But no one has ever preferred that movie to the comics. It's just...bizarre to me.

Haha, I knew I'd get flak for that. decidedly is actually another who might prefer the film to the comics - not totally sure, but I know that Constantine fandom is how we originally met. :] There used to be a discussion community for movie-based canon and the whole nine yards. Mostly, I prefer the film's atmosphere and drive. It also has Angela Dodson (Rachel Weisz's character), whom I love.

I'm not judging, mind you. I'm just sort of baffled. It's not anything I've ever encountered before. Most folk I know hate, tolerate, or like the movie, but not preferentially to the comics. It's just...not how it's done with them. This comes from knowing comic geeks, I do understand that.

Yeah, I love comics, but I'm a pretty selective fan of them. About the only universe I'm slavishly devoted to in that medium is Daredevil's (which has stayed remarkably consistent for over 20 years now). Otherwise, I feel like the titles themselves are so schizophrenic (due to the countless different writers involved) that a lot of flexibility should be granted to anyone trying to create a film out of them.
