Catching Up...

As has been the case all too often lately, I've simply been so busy that I keep forgetting to update my journal.  A big part of the problem is that I simply don't really have time when I'm at the shop, and at home my poor little P-III laptop can just barely handle the deluge of data from the modern web-pages.  I haven't turned on my bigger, ( Read more... )

I have a Blueline Journal on my desk in the bedroom. I fill out one page every night before I hop into bed. It takes about 90 seconds. My journals go back 39 years and I refer to them often to follow the growth of my horse business. I couldn't work without them. My LJ entries were fun, but very time consuming and of no real use to me or anybody else. That is why I closed my LJ journal. Maybe when I retire I will start it up again. In the meantime I will read your entries (which are always interesting).

Hey, glad the kid's got a job! Make it clear to him that his first paycheck, he can spend on whatever he likes, but make sure you talk with him about setting up funds for college.

Heck, may pop on over to the bank and get him his own account if he hasn't one already. He's too young for it to be entirely in his name, but making it clear that he's wearing Big Kid Pants now is a good thing.

I gave The Kidling his own bank account (and $100 to open it) when he turned Seven. When he was working for the Co-Op earlier this year, his paycheques were automatically deposited into an account that only I could access, and I transferred 25% of each one into his regular savings account. If there was a demonstrated need for more, I'd transfer more.

I got the idea from one of the kids I worked with when I was at the Co-Op Gas Bar a couple of years ago; His dad did the same thing with him, and it made him save a lot of money. By doing this, The Kidling was able to afford to buy his own cell-phone, a used truck, and a few other nice things that he wouldn't have been able to afford had he been blowing it as fast as it came in on junk-food and video games.

Big Kid Pants, BTW, are overrated... ;)
