Christmas Shopping

     When I was a teenager, and younger, I used to love Christmas shopping.  I'd eagerly await the arrival of the Sears Christmas Wish Book, and other catalogues, and I'd have been saving my allowance for weeks (if not months) planning on what I would buy for my family.  I very fondly remember riding the bus home from my successful shopping ( Read more... )

Ah yes.. the Sear's Catalogs. My mother was a BIG fan of catalog shopping.. I consider it a great tragedy of our time that she didn't live to see internet shopping. Amazone alon would have made her squeal like a schoolgirl.

But yeah, as far as the commercialization goes, it's been pretty bad. I'm just glad Halloween is fighting back good and strong - for a while there I was worrying that the buying season would go ahead and lap the actual date. Thanksgiving.. well, it's hard to commercialize beyond some pies and cranberry sauce, so it gets to stay a family event.
