Preparing for the Meltdown...

     With the weather forecast calling for temperatures to (finally) rise above 0°c and stay there for a few days, it was imperative that the snow be cleared away from the sides of the house.  It was still below freezing today, but just barely, and the lack of wind made it a good day for getting the work done.  Much to his annoyance, the Kidling ( Read more... )

press-ganged logan (again) huh.... you know, i don't remember being press-ganged into things all that oft'n when i was his age. But i do remember having to shovel 8 houses: driveways and sidewalks (5$ a snow fall, made good money weeks, others, it just never stopped snowing)

I remember days of having worked like that as a kid, and I couldn't move afterward. Or during. Ugh.

Sounds like you could've used a pickaxe more than a shovel.

Actually, the snow wasn't packed anywhere near that hard - it just took more effort than merely dropping the shovel down on it. One might actually have to resort to, I dunno, stepping on the foot-rest part of it?

The real irony is that back when he was about six years old, the Kidling was far more active, and would tackle just about any task you presented him just to prove that he could do it. Reminds me of the Calvin & Hobbes strip where Calvin wants to try running the vacuum cleaner; His mom is more than happy to let him do the job, and the final panel has him saying something about not trusting the satisfied look on her face. ;)
