     What was I saying the last time about things finally going right?  Can't have much of that now, can we?

It's 6:14am as I write this, which is a bad enough time to be awake on a Saturday morning, but I've been awake for about half an hour now.  Getting up at 5:45am on a Saturday is even worse, but the worst of it is that I didn't get to ( Read more... )

Well, I found the original packaging the the heat-tape came in. It doesn't say that I can't use the foam-rubber pipe wrap, it just suggests using the fibreglass stuff instead. They suggest using 1/2" thick wrap, and the stuff I had was only half that thick. That might have been part of the problem, though I rather doubt it as it worked just fine, and they seem to be worried more about over-insulating the tape than under-insulating it. Still, I think I might see if I can get the foam wrap in a size large enough to cover a 1" pipe. It would make the installation a lot easier ( ... )

Ah, the freezing of pipes... *hugs* Hope your new solution is long-lasting. Reminds me, though, need to make sure all the water-fountains for the cattle scattered over the farm are winterized and keeping things from icing up.

My advice? TWO strips of heat tape. Wrap 'em around next to one another, on different circuits. That way if one conks out, the other should keep things operational. Also, if it gets REALLY cold, you can fire up both at once.

If you 2 you will melt the pipe you can not over lap heat tape.
seen a fire that way. i know the power cost but a frozen pump cost's more.
