I think that's what bugs me most about Eglamore/Renardine's obsession with Surma.

A bit of Gunnerkrigg spoilers up to the latest page )

yeah I'm still kind of (read: really actually) pissed that a lot of fans just assume that Tony never loved/doesn't really care about Annie, kind of like how they all just assumed he didn't really love Surma, but it's totally okay that Renard and Eglamore go around projecting their jilted feelings onto Annie all the time.

I mean it might still be true that he doesn't love her (I highly doubt it but I personally feel that their relationship has always been strained/complicated), but shouldn't it be enough that Tom already proved them wrong once to at least wait for an explanation instead of bashing him in the comments?

Well, my personal headcanon for those two at the moment is that Tony can't deal with the fact that he failed to save Surma, and Antimony is a constant reminder of that. But at the same time she's all he has left of her, and now we've seen how much stress goes into how he deals with others, so I really doubt he cut her off for no good reason.

Yeah, my thoughts go along much of the same lines, with the added bonus that Tony probably knows how much of a pain in the ass he is when he's having trouble dealing with himself, so he figured that Annie would have an easier time in GK and find someone that gets her, much like he found Donny. And she did (Donny and Anja set them up, even!). And....there's probably something else, too, because this is A Plot, but I think at this point I'd like to assume that it isn't an entirely selfish reason.

Also, here's a thought : maybe Anthony was clenching his hands so hard in bled when he walked out of that room in Fire Spike, after seeing Annie. And Surma was telling the entire truth---'he still loves you very much', but he also doesn't know what to do, and it probably hurts him just as much to walk away.

And I think we can 100% say now that Anthony really, really really loved Surma, considering that he cried, dude.

I was all like "ow, my heart" over Anthony crying even though that was the first sign that he had human emotions at all, maybe I am just biased IDK. I felt defensive over people calling him emotionless/bland/heartless before we even had any proof at all that he wasn't, soooo. I JUST DON'T GET WHY PEOPLE STILL INSIST HE'S A TERRIBLE PERSON EVEN THOUGH WE'VE CLEARLY SEEN HE ISN'T?! He's just... painfully socially awkward, but that doesn't mean he's a jerk.
