I'm very sorry to hear she isn't improving. I think your decision is best, though I know it's incredibly hard.

I just went through this with my own red mare, also named Ginger. My parents put her down a week ago tomorrow. I'm still a wreck, but pulling myself together...slowly ( ... )

I have a 29-year-old mare who sounds a lot like your old lady (I've had my pony since I was 11) - lots of attitude! I missed your last post; my mare was on steroids until recently, although this was for a skin condition she had. I'm so sorry to hear you're reaching the end of the road with your girl, as I can imagine how utterly heartbreaking it must be. I do commend you on having the courage to make such a tough decision, though. Far better to let her go while she still has some quality of life rather than let her struggle through the winter.

I'm so sorry kusanar and chiquita522. My soon to be 24 year old Morgan gelding is slowly going down that path and I dread the day my husband and I are going to have to let him go. Gentle hugs and peace to you both.

I'm so sorry. But I think you're making the right decision. And even when she's gone, part of her will always be with you.
