So it's hard to really tell with the angle of the last two pictures (since they're taken from kind of above-slanting-down) but it looks to ME like the heels are way run under. I'm not a shoeing guru by any means so someone correct me if I'm wrong but I would think that if you grew out more heel and corrected the angle, you could also shorten the toes (which also look really long, but it IS 5 weeks out) which would help reduce a lot of that flaring.
His feet just seem so... pancakish? And the left one looks noticeably wider (again, that could just be the angle of the picture). There's nothing wrong with a horse that toes in or out, but I think if you eliminated that flare you could really help to straighten him out better.
Unless your blacksmith specifically wanted to trim him this way for a previous issue/injury and I have no idea what I'm talking about?
Have his hooves always been that flat?? I only see him like once a year, but yeah, I don't remember his hooves looking like *that*. I would not be happy:P
I'm a bad one to ask, because you know how I'm always OMG MY HORSE IS LAME, death, destruction, etc.
But his feet look awfully, um, drafty? He also doesn't seem to have much heel at all. Google some draft horse feet, and you'll see what I mean. Since they aren't all death and destruction, I'm relatively sure your farrier can help sort this one out. It's been a really rough year on feet, what with the wetness, then the dryness all over the world!
yeah I was thinking exactly the same as all the above, and so it must be incredibly obvious because I don't know a whole lot [read: anything] about hooves/shoes.
