Eventing vests for general riding purposes?

Jun 01, 2012 09:45

I am looking to purchase a protective vest for general riding purposes. I am schooling a green TB cross that is young and quite spooky (life is very scary for this one at the moment!) and I would just feel better wearing a vest when I ride her. I looked back at previous threads on the subject and have been reading through various articles/forum ( Read more... )

especially if you've never worn a vest before, and have no idea how brands fit you, I certainly advocate you taking a trip to a tack store (if possible) and trying them on. They can be very uncomfortable and restrictive to your riding if they don't fit right.

That being said, Tipperary is a pretty trusty company, this vest may work for you:

Thanks so much for the advice! I'm not sure why I thought I could get away with just shopping online without trying one on...I don't think I really thought that through. I went to a local tack shop and found one that fit (the Tipperary vest fit a little strange) and in my price range, so I now have my very own vest! Thanks again!

go try them on. the one I thought I would like didn't fit at all. Also sit in a saddle in one and BRING YOUR HELMET. some knocked my helmet because they rode up.

a lot of people get the tipperarys and they are very lightweight and comfortable but personally I felt kinda dumb spending $300 on a vest that wasn't even certified. I have an airoware which I LOVE. it actually fits my boobs and isn't huge!!

Thanks so much for the advice - I was able to try one on and found one in my price range. I liked the Charles Owen and the Airoware (you are right about the fit, I was very happy about that!) so if I decide I need something a bit more heavy duty I will definitely go in and try those vests again. I am happy with my purchase in terms of comfort and I appreciate the tip about bringing the helmet/sitting in a saddle.
