That horse looks huge. What breed is it?

He's actually only around 15.2 hands..i;m just *really* short! (4 ft 7)

He is a Connemara.

what does horz stand for/mean?

i use horz. as an abbreviation to mean "horizontal"...the 2nd jump is a horizontal jump.

ohh ok. i'm pretty sure you mean "vertical." :) there's no such thing as a "horizontal" jump.

Thank you. He is a dream!

At one point in the video (not quite sure where)..we were supposed to canter over both jumps..but i'd forgotten to circle and didn't have enough power..and so he trotted over the 2nd jump. Vanessa (my instructor) said that he had made the right decision because it was safer for him *and* me..i think it was at that point i felt so proud of Caleb!

This may be quite out of line, but its something that occurred to me. You commented up there ^^ that your only 4ft 7, and I did notice that your quite small, although you manage a reasonably sized horse pretty well. I was just wondering if you or your trainer had discussed how your height affects your riding? Or have you reached that point yet?

I'm the complete opposite, tall and long, and have been lucky to have trainers with the same body type, since riding is all about feel, its really hard to learn from/teach someone with a completely different body type to you. Like I doubt I'd be able to ride the way I do if I didn't have over 3ft of legs, since its all about getting *down* around the horse, although that might be exactly the same way someone smaller than me rides, they just don't get as far down, like I said I've no idea!

You can tell me to P-off if you want, its just a discussion I'd be interested in having, I'd love to see some BNT's weigh in on their opinions about how different body types effect your way of riding!

No worries, i'm not offended at all! In fact, it's never occurred to me that my height effects the way i ride...this is a something i would like to explore more (Please feel free to pm me about this..you have sparked my interest!)

what's/who are BNT's?

Wait, did you say your trainer said you'll be doing Novice eventing come fall? Novice fences are 2'11 in height and over 3' in width. How often are you riding?

I don't mean this in any bad way, but 2'11 is only, what 70-80cms? That's not that big. Over this way that's the smallest class you'll get, intro, (If your lucky) in any competition, apart from the speshul people who formed their own organisation so that they could jump cross-poles forever (Not an attack on people who choose to jump small, just these ejits, they're especially speshul, and all of their horses fart rainbows -_-)

Judging by the video, OP is along the right lines, and should have no problem at 70cms SJ. I don't know about your XC, but here, an Intro class (70-90cm) XC is all single fences, very small, *maybe* a bank, and usually and in-and-out water question, and no longer than 3-4 minutes. She should have no problem with that if they keep going the way they're going

Sorry, i meant training level. i always get the two confused.

At our barn it goes:
Preliminary
Training
Novice
Jr. Novice
Beginner Novice A
Beginner Novice B
Elementary

But i ride twice a week.

... Training is higher than Novice. Training level eventing is 3'3. In unrecognized horse trials or mini trials elementary (or seen as intro.) is the beginning level, basically crossbars. I think you have the levels backwards in your head.

In terms of easiest to hardest, USEA eventing levels go Beginner Novice to Advanced.
