Rant

Alright, the place I am currently boarding my two horses has officially hit the last staw with me.  My one mares, Gracie, now needs about 100 plus pounds on her due to the barn manager's ignorance, and I am just about at wits end as to what to do. Besides the obvious of getting my horses the heck outta there ASAP! It just seems when it comes to ( Read more... )

I have no helpful advice or experience here - I just wanted to say HOLY CRAP SHE NEEDS TO EAT. I know you asked for advice other than "get her out of there"... but I can't help myself: get her out of there!!!!!!(!!!)(!)

Or lipo this horse in the dark of night and transfer it to Gracie:

Yikes, what on earth is that!? Is that the bastard child of a horse and hippo?

Yes. That is the only logical explanation.

(But it's actually a real QH stud that I discovered through the magic of harnessphoto)

I am! I have my vet even helping me to try and find a decent place to move my girls. Sad thing is, in my area a good barn is extreamly hard to find.

If you post your area, someone here might have an idea on possible barns.

Something similar happened to me a couple summers ago. I was shocked at how much weight my horse lost after only three months. I know every horse is different, but if it makes you feel any better, my mare gained the weight back really quickly once I moved her to a place that actually, you know, fed her.

Good luck finding a place and keep sneaking Gracie that hay!

Move her, put corn oil in her grain so she gets some extra calories, and call the local authorities.

How much corn oil do you add to the food?

Start with about tablespoon or so, and work up to about a 1/4 cup or so per meal. If her poop starts getting runny, reduce.

Also, be sure to worm her, because I that's not been done by the barn. :(

All the horses have been wormed, I help do this ^_^ They are on a two way switch (although I'd prefer a three way...)

Move her. That's the only advice I have for you.

Last year I had to move my gelding, Linus, because the "self care" facility where he was stabled refused to let the boarders take care of their own horses. Once I moved him, he gained the weight back really quickly.

He was between 200 and 300 pounds underweight (here's the link). We thought it would take all summer to get him back to a sensible weight, but after a month he was looking much, much better.

Wow, your past situation looks very similar to mine now. It's sad when the people you entrust with your babies are idiots. Gracie is moving ASAP! I've got a couple barns I'm looking into now.
