Two christmasses ago I recieved a "Summer Trail Ride" scented bar of Stable Solutions Soap. It was shaped like a dressage horse and rider and smelled amazing. I used it as a room-freshener/decoration in the box for about a year because I really DON'T like bar soap, plus it was just so cute and smelled so good I didn't want to use it. a mix of warm water and ammonia to clean. neatsfoot oil with a little paint thinner to condition [the paint thinner allows the oil to soak deep into the leather instead of sitting on the surface].

ever since I learned how drying it can be ... none! I use a damp cloth to clean and Passier leather balsm to keep the leather healthy.

If I am going to HARDCORE clean I use Epona saddle soap, it's pure vegetable glycerin. I follow that with neatsfoot oil, working it in to the crevices deeply with my hands (makes your hands really soft!). I just use Lexol for a quickie cleanup.

When I worked in a high end tack shop we had a "secret" leather conditioning recipe. It was simply to dunk the bridle/halter/whatnot in a bucket of neatsfoot oil, let it sit and then put it in a plastic bag for a day to seal in the moisture. It made brand new bridles and reins SUPER supple!

When gifting, make sure the person you're giving it to is okay with scents. There are more and more people who are chemically sensitive, and even more (such as myself) who prefer things to be unscented.

True. The soaps are naturally made with no chemicals, they ware scented with flowers/natural stuff. Not sure if it makes any difference, but it is good for people with chemical allergies.

New tack gets oiled with neatsfoot oil (the real stuff). I try but do not always succeed after every ride to wipe down my bridle with a slightly damp sponge rubbed across a glycerin soap bar. (The bit *always* gets rinsed because Feronia chews it and it gets pretty foamy and gross.) About once a week I use Effax Leder-Combi cleaner followed by Effax lederbalsam. The saddles don't get cleaned as often... though I *should* include them in my weekly cleaning routine.
