So I've had this idea since I was a little peanut, and I'm thinking about starting up a Boarding Facility in Michigan. I'm not sure if that's the best idea considering the condition of the economy or how well it'll work for me financially, but it's something I feel strongly about and I've never felt so positive about something I want to do before ( Read more... )

Only do it if you're independently wealthy. It's brutal trying to make money out of horses.

I know of a woman who started "the premier boarding facility" in the Upper Peninsula of MI ( ... )

Sounds dreadfully similar to the story of Chelsea Equestrian Center. And that was run by people who were well-established in the equine community and already owned huge, successful barns.

The barns I know of started by young girls that ended up... surviving... started with a big-time investor, a huge mortgage, and already established clients and a training program.

You might want to research farm loan programs, I think there are some geared towards women.

not a really great idea right now, unless you bought a turn key facility that was already full. there is no money whatsoever in boarding...you make your money from lessons and training.
