So I've had this idea since I was a little peanut, and I'm thinking about starting up a Boarding Facility in Michigan. I'm not sure if that's the best idea considering the condition of the economy or how well it'll work for me financially, but it's something I feel strongly about and I've never felt so positive about something I want to do before

Only do it if you're independently wealthy. It's brutal trying to make money out of horses.

I know of a woman who started "the premier boarding facility" in the Upper Peninsula of MI

Sounds dreadfully similar to the story of Chelsea Equestrian Center. And that was run by people who were well-established in the equine community and already owned huge, successful barns.

The barns I know of started by young girls that ended up... surviving... started with a big-time investor, a huge mortgage, and already established clients and a training program.

You might want to research farm loan programs, I think there are some geared towards women.

not a really great idea right now, unless you bought a turn key facility that was already full. there is no money whatsoever in boarding...you make your money from lessons and training.
