Believe it or not, there are some nice BO's out there, too. If you enjoy your horse and she treats you well, then by all means keep her and enjoy her. But definitely find a new barn if you can! Let her lose your business.
A BO story from yesterday: My BO put all the horses out in the morning and then puttered around the barn. It started to rain and rained heavily for most of the day. It also got progressively colder and windier, and the horses don't have any shelters on the pasture. They were out for four hours minimum getting soaked to the bone in weather that was cold enough I could see my breath. The BO hadn't put any rugs on any of the horses and some of them came in shivering, all of them soaked to the bone. To me that's negligent because she told us she didn't go and catch them because "they were running around like crazy" (Gee, I wonder why? /sarcasm) and she didn't want to go chase them around in the rain. *facepalm*
I'm pretty much over taking that BO seriously and am looking at moving my horse.
I have 13 horses that are mine, and 3 I co-own with someone else. You know what? I ride like once a month, if I'm lucky! My daughter rides once or twice a week and I use a couple of them for lessons, but most of the time we groom, lunge, clean stalls, and just enjoy our horses. They love it!
To heck with anyone who tries to tell you HOW to enjoy your horses. As long as you are enjoying yourself and taking care of your horse then life is perfect!
