Perfect day for a ride?

Aug 22, 2008 13:47

I just wanted to share what an amazingly fun ride that chiere and I had this past evening. As some of you know, we are east coast Florida residents and are currently waiting for Fay to move her butt on North to Jacksonville. Well... Thursdays are our riding days and dammit... we were going to go riding!
It gets better! No mosquitoes! )

draft horses, polls, mares, natural disasters

haha... wow.

I say that as I'm currently sitting here debating if I really really want to ride in this. We are only getting bits of Fay, but like where you are it's been rainy and windy about once an hour for 3 days. I don't think my horse minds, but my dogs sure have cabin fever. I think I would ride, if I didn't have to feed tonight too. I hate being soggy for extended periods.

I'm a pretty fair weather rider, but the worst I ever rode in was this winter. It was late February, but it wasn't too cold. There were 25+ mph wind gusts though. I was determined to ride, so I did. I decided I would see how silly Finn got with all that wind, and you know what? He was fine. He could have cared less. Lol!

Blizzards! No kidding- I think it was 1993, and it was snowing pretty hard as my father drove me to the lesson. Midway through the lesson, we learned the conditions had been escalated to "Blizzard" weather. I was riding this Arabian gelding who spooked every time the wind rattled the arena.

I also remember that when it snowed through the door of the indoor arena, we had snowball fights on the bomb-proof ponies- scooping the snow off the jump standards and ripping around the arena like fools.

I live in the arctic north (a.k.a. Michigan) so we have an indoor in order to ride year round. I've ridden in subzero weather, ice storms, blizzards, pouring rain, and terrible winds.

LOL @ Arctic North. Maybe the UP.

The rest of the state can't make up it's mind what the hell kind of weather it wants. Like, this summer? WTF?

I know it...but aparently God did not design me to be a cold weather girl. I'm fine with the 600% humidity 110* summers, but it hits 30* and I die a little on the inside.

About two weeks ago, N IL was hit with NASTY storms. Tornados touched down in a few places. And I was on horseback in the woods.

That said, it was sunshine-y when we left the barn.

So, because everyone has been standing in the camel barn for 4 freakin; days, they are all stocked up. I think I need to go run them around the paddock a little, LOL! Apparently, a two hour ride through a storm isn't enough! I can't even see the tendons in Nyx's or Gwyn's hind legs,... But they are eating like fools,...
