There was a post yesterday about equine massage colleges, and I was curious about how many of you guys got your horses massages. I'm thinking of attending one of these schools and am curious about the market. So-- if you guys could take a moment and kindly answer the following questions it would be greatly appreciated. The Noodle got a little cranky and back-sore looking during a horse show so I had the massage lady who was at the show come do his back. She lasered him for 15 minutes and then gave him an hour massage. The next day she came and lasered him again. Even with just the laser The Noodle had his ears instantly at half mast and his lip drooping, so he definitely liked it! The initial thing was $100 and the follow up lasering was $20.

The horses already get chiropracter once a month as maintenance so I probably wouldn't do massages on top. However, if the horse seemed suddenly muscle sore I would do the massage again, or if he had an unusually hard week at a show with lots of divisions, or lots of people trying him for lease or whatever.

The woman was an experienced saddle fitter/saddle maker as well as being a massage therapist, and as a result of that horse show The Noodle got a new saddle (which did not benefit the woman financially in any way; I got it from somewhere else).

1. Have you ever gotten your horse/equine a massage? (if yes do you get them regularly?)
Yes. My older large pony had them regularly for a couple months

2. If not would you ever consider this form of treatment?
N/A

3. Was it in response to an injury, training goal, arthritis, or some other reason?(read: why?)
His balance was very off when he came back from the US and he seemed very tense

4. What credentials did you look for in the person giving the massage
Just that she had studied it at an actual massage therapy school and completed the program

5. How much did the massage run ($) and how long was it?
$75/hour but she actually gave us a bit of a discount cuz my pony was at the same barn as her horse, so she didn't have to go out of her way to do it.

6. Did you like the results? would you do this again/ on a regular basis.
I definitely thought it helped accelerate his improvement and if I thought a horse would benefit from it, I would definitely do it again.

1. Twice. ever.
3. The first time was for a demo in my HS equine science class and mine was a demo pony. The second time was a) an excuse for xihateyourx to come visit and b) as a mental pick-me up after time off due to illness
4. uhhh the first guy the teacher of the class knew and the second...she needed ponies to practice on
5. 1st: Free, about 2 hours
2nd: a Fig-8 noseband and a saddle
6. yes...crazy TB isn't so tight in his shoulders and learned to work for his cookies (stretches), and the Moo man learned to chillax a bit.
