I just realized today that I have been riding 10 years! That's a long time to me, so I thought maybe I'd make a little discussion post ( Read more... )

My very first time on a horse, I was a year old - my mom and dad were at a county fair or something, and the end result was a photo of my mom and I on horseback. When I got older, I read pretty much everything I could about horses, The Saddle Club books were my main addiction, and I still have my horse encyclopedia (one of those Discovery or I Spy books, maybe?) around somewhere, I think. The next time I was on horseback was 5th grade. My girl scout troop went to a farm, and we did a circuit around a paddock.

I finally took lessons for a year in middle school, and had to stop when I started high school because the homework was kicking my ass and something had to go.

hello :) i'm new here but thought i would answer your questions anyway :)

i started riding when i was 12. i'm 24 now but have been out of riding for almost two years so i don't count the last two years :P i got into it for the love of horses and i really liked the idea of jumping over big fences (drove my mom nuts).

i remember my first time on a horse i was probably four or five. we went on one of those trail rides where ya walk around the "woods". i had a ball and while i liked horses before i ever sat on one i was hooked for life after that! :)

My mom got me pony rides for my birthday one year when I was little and she said I pestered her ever since then until finally she called, but none of the places in my area would take me until I was 8, so I had to wait, and then I started the week before my 8th birthday. I remember my first lesson, I was so proud. I was off the lunge line and trotting around on my own with no help by the end. I was so proud.

agreed.

Also, usually someone who has been riding and around horses for 10 years should know what a standing wrap is.
