I was on my trainer's kiddie drill team in high school. We had weekly practices on the schoolies (that was our shtick, we're the "Horseless Horsemen"). We performed at Belmont and some other regional competitions and events like park fundraisers and things. We were always the highlight of my barn's schooling show lunch breaks because we were either legitimately good or so bad it was hilarious. Before we became the Horseless Horsemen and were just my barn's drill team I rode my horse in practices. Just a word of caution: It really does take a certain kind of horse to put up with it. My horse is an ex rent-a-trail and fairly well bombproof but he just can't be in the middle of a line. He was fine with flags and everything, but moves like thread-the-needle where there were horses all around him really stressed him out. When you go looking for a horse ask if he's had some drill experience. If not, maybe take him on trial and go to a couple of local drill team practices.
Where does one get such cool reins and breastcollars and such?

I'd really like to get involved with SCA, eventually, especially with the horse stuff. I'd like some advice on that as well! I'm in Colorado, but I think general advice is good too.
I used my gaming mare for drill team. She's a HOT little shit, but she kicked butt at drills. The above poster was right though, it DOES take a special horse to be really good. Rosie was excellent at matching strides with other horses, and was a fabulous flag bearer. Plus, she was our fastest horse on the team, so we were always the american flag, and galloped out the end with the national anthem. It was a blast, and i would love to get back into it, but my old girl is retired now, and frankly, none of my other horses would be very good drill horses. We performed at the county fair, state 4-H shows, the stallion expo's, and at 4-H and open shows.

Are you part of the SCA as well, or do you trailer as a business?
