"Horrible" Halloween '09

Sep 18, 2009 18:38

After last year's 'hastily-put-together' Dr. Horrible costume that I threw together at the last minute, I wanted to redeem myself this Halloween.  But this year I wanted to go as the ELE Dr. Horrible (ie: red lab coat).

Thanks!
The lab coat really came out better than I expected. The pics really don't do it justice...my camera phone sucks :P

Looks great! I am planning on buying the mad scientist costume and modding it for my Halloween costume this year. I wanted to ask you a couple of questions about it. Did you purchase the teen costume or the adult costume and if adult, which size? How did it fit you (well, too big, too small)? I am also female and I'm concerned that the adult medium may be too large even though I am 5'11".

I purchased the adult costume from BuyCostumes.com (it's actually on sale now for $36), and it was a medium.
When I first put it on, it fit like a bad dress...too long and too baggy (I'm 5'9''). The two things that I used to snug it up were the back belt and the collar. The costume has those cheap strings on the back of the collar to tie together...I just cut those off, overlapped the 2 separate sides about an inch, sewed half-way up the back, and used velcro for the rest.
When I attached the buttons for the back belt, I sewed them on the front half of the costume, so when the belt was attached, it would pull on the front fabric more.
Clear as mud?
If you would like any detailed pics of the completed costume, just let me know what kind, and I'll post them.
Good luck!

Awesome! Thanks! The costume just arrived today. I may have more questions once I take a good look at it. Right now I am off to the craft store to get mod podge and paint for the goggles. :-)

Thanks for doing it first, now I will shamelessly copy you ;)

Costume just arrived; got the "teen" size, & it fits well. I'm 5'9/150 lb & it's just about right.

Now to try the modifications with stuff from the craft store...
