I've not read Quirkology, but I have read another book by Prof Wiseman, 59 Seconds: Think a little, change a lot which I can definitely recommend. I takes all the popular self-help recommendations, analyses them and determines what works and what does not. Very thought-provoking. :)

Likewise actually - I love 59 Seconds for fighting the corner of science in that area. Works, too!

In a similar vein, I'll also recommend "13 Things That Don't Make Sense: The Most Intriguing Scientific Mysteries of Our Time" by Michael Brooks.

(makes notes) I which case, I'll counter by recommending "50 Great Myths of Popular Psychology: Shattering Widespread Misconceptions About Human Behavior" by Scott O. Lilienfeld (et al) Wonderful stuff all about critial thinking. :)
