I haven't really been on livejournal in a while, but it's a better place to be putting out updates that are longer than a sentence than facebook, or god forbid, twitter

Thanks for conjuring up such a vivid picture of your new life Caro. I'm really glad you're enjoying it. It kind of makes me wish we'd had a bit more time in Amsterdam and Holland in general. The castle by the sea sounds pretty amazing - what town was it in? Have you had a chance to visit Delft? I really liked it there, but I'm not sure how much that was to do with the fact that I'd just read and really liked 'The girl with the Pearl earring', which was set there and we were able to locate a lot of places from the book. Also, it was where I purchased the most awesome game of "Halle Galle" -"Den spelt mit den bel" (spelling?)!
We went to Delft a few weeks ago because someone from my work was having their birthday party there. We went there a bit earlier with someone else from work and checked out the town. It is a really nice city, there isn't anything quite like it Australia - it feels like a little village, yet it's really close to Amsterdam, and we were still able to get home by public transport even though we left about midnight (trains in fact run between there are all night)
I should get the girl with the pearl earring! I do like reading books that are set in places I'm visiting / have visited. When we went to London, everywhere you looked there was something you'd read about or seen on TV or in a movie. A lot of Neal Stevenson's Quicksilver was set in Holland, but I read it a while ago and I've forgotten quite a lot of it, so I would like to read it again.
