Swimming in circles

Diving is dangerous, even without getting in the water. Last night while sorting out the equipment for Sunday's diving adventure, I was loading the gear into the trailer. When I tried to rearrange it so the gear was loaded further in, the trailer tilted forwards so it came down on my toe. It made a god awful noise, partially the trailer and the ( Read more... )

I can still move everything (even if my toes don't really want to), so it's probably not broken, but there's a good chance of a fracture.
I think I'm going to be out of action on the rock climbing front for quite a while as I don't think it'll heal very quickly. Diving (usually) is a low impact sport so I hope that's still doable because I'd like to get at least the one dive in Melbourne this Summer.

Yeowwwww! :( maybe drop past a medical practitioner with an X-ray if it keeps hurting?

Yeah, I could get an xray, but I'm not sure what it'll do for me in terms of different treatment. If it was a hand / wrist etc, I'd definitely get one, but your big toe is hard to brace. As a concession, I'm wearing actual sneakers - I would usually only wear these while I was doing sport, but they seem to help.

Apart from that, i already know that I should be resting it, and while I'm definitely not going to rock climb or run for a long time (just the thought of putting climbing shoes on is painful), I think relaxed diving might be ok.

I just thought of this now though - when i'm trying to be careful with how I move my flippers so i don't stir up sediment I can end up with leg cramps. I'll have to be careful that I'm not tensing my legs in strange ways.

If it helps (and you may already know this, so forgive me if you do!), try just keeping your feet relaxed and working from your thighs and backside. It's more work initially, but it's more efficient and should be kinder to your feet...

Ideally you should be keeping your legs straight, but I can't do that on the surface, I pull with my knees :P
