Please explain to me what Mary Sue is, because all the context clues I have ever seen seem to contradict.

I still don't get curtain. Maybe my definition of "Schmoop" is different?

Mary Sue is essentially "self-insert" or thinly veiled author insert fic. So, I write a story about an idealized version of myself as an original character in a fanfic, and everyone goes "omg, what a Mary Sue!" Signs of being a Mary Sue include: being related to the main characters (daughter of, etc.), everyone falls in love with her, she is astoundingly beautiful, and in the original version, dies to save everyone else so can be mourned. Mary Sue gets her name from an early Star Trek story about Lt. Mary Sue

I think baby!fic is when the characters are turned or written into a younger version of themselves? well I took it like that.
