I do have a hot water cupboard, and it would be weird if they were in there because I never go in there! So now I will have to look. I should probably also check the much-neglected book room.

Isn't that always the way? But then, I start packing a hour before I have to leave, usually.

I always have to repack the night before anyway. But starting now means I can throw things on the pile instead of making obsessive lists in my head.

"It's just not possible," Sawyer says again, pushing the paper aside. Licking the salt of the bacon from his lips. But there's Jack's face again, telling him it is possible. Jack nods, not touching the food, just clinging to his coffee cup. "So tell me what's new."
"A black man is president," Jack says. The biggest change he can think of, something he thinks will impress or shock Sawyer.
You genius you! I'd beg for a sequel to this story but it's pretty damned perfect the way it stands.
