Belated weekend silliness

Every so often I doubt my ability to properly "fit" here, and every time it's gotten bad something has happened to chase the doubts off, generally with laughter. The most recent was last weekend, after the plod that was cleaning the office - DS exclaimed "How could it have taken all day, Mum? It's not that big a room ( Read more... )

I recognise the emotional trauma of coming across cat reminders. For ages S2C kept all his clothes in a heap on the spare bed. I finally managed to get them into the wardrobe in that bedroom - and found, at the back of the pile, a jumper that had, clearly, been used as a cat bed for quite a while before.

Isn't it lovely, though, that moment when you realise you belong there rather than just visiting?

As it's "You've got to be kidding me" levels of hot here this weekend, P. and I are hiding indoors and doing some much needed tidying. Unfortunately, while rotating the futon we found that the other side was covered in cat hair; pulling the SD card from a broken phone gave us a lot more photos of them we weren't expecting. :-( Laundering the yoga clothes and putting them outside on the drying rack is an excellent distraction.

Another of those moments happened when I went out for coffee with D.: she knew the woman working at the counter, and the two of them were chatting quite happily when D. turned to me and said "And you've met, yes?" To my amazement, the other woman said "No, we haven't been introduced, but I've seen her walking past quite often." I was astonished, as I think I'm very unmemorable!

I love this.
:)
But I'm sorry about the cat reminders. I have dogs and sometimes I'll find a toy or something one of my dearly departed pups had hidden and break out in tears. It's rough...I'm glad you could go to the pub and come away with a sense of belonging. How long have you been living on the Island?

We wound up keeping all of the soft toy mice that belonged to the furlumps -- they were in a box to be donated to the local rescue, but as P. was moving something he bumped the box and Elder Grey Cat's favourite squeaked, and he broke down crying. They have their own spot on the bench in the bedroom where the humans' soft toys live (the lower shelf, where DS's husky pack took up residence).

They look like this. Seriously, they had to stay.

I've been on the island since February of last year, so - 16 months, just about?
