Not knowing exactly where you live, you might want to consider not just boarding it up, but putting insulation in before you do. If you life in a cold climate, you understand what I mean. If you live in a hot climate, you know what I mean. When we moved into this hovel we're in now (my mom's house when she died), the first thing we did was block - with 1" hard foam insulation - 2 HUGE single pane windows and 2 semi-huge single pane windows. Amazingly easier to keep the house either warm or cool, depending on the season. Especially since one of the windows was in the bedroom, facing southeast, and we like cool complete dark to sleep in.

It's amazing what you can hide behind curtains, lol.

i've actually decided against the plywood, my dad thinks it'll piss off the neighbors, yeah, he lives 400 miles away but he's in my head)

I live in the Richmond area and yeah, i need to at least replace what's there with something that isn't thirty years old but the flannel backed light blocking insulated curtain will have to do for now

Very pretty switchplate. Mine are sadly basic. FanSee

none of mine are, they're all variations on shabby chic but then again, i don't have any art hanging on my walls.

Diggin' the switch plate! I have accumulated different ones over the years, and it can be a relatively cheap and cheery thing. You can also move them from room to room.
