I'm hesitant to read this because you said it doesn't have a particularly happy ending. >_>;

A quick overview of the less than happy endings of Kingdom Come.

A little over half-way through the fic the Alternate Universe that they are sent to is destroyed and almost all its inhabitants are killed including some of the AU main characters.

Yamcha ends up getting together with the original Vegeta, but he goes through a rough patch before doing so.

Gohan ends up getting a divorce from Videl and trying to convince Piccolo to leave Goten for him. It doesn't work which leaves Gohan at a less than happy place at the end of the story.

Kirririn lives happily ever after except for his wife being mad at him for shaving his hair while he was in the AU.
