Get this: I went home yesterday and then returned to Riverdale earlier today, meaning I was home for less than 24 hours. This is not the story I want to tell though. While I was home, I was sitting around in our family room at around midnight, and on the side table next to the couch I see an envelope from Ana, who is my aunt because she married my ( Read more... )

My father had the same affliction. He'd call into his sister's house, they'd have a big gossip and catch up over a cup of tea and then he'd come home and unless it was something really huge, never tell us anything. And he never ever remembered if anyone was pregnant unless my mother happened to say to him, 'hey I just heard so-and-so is having a baby' and he'd say something along the lines of having heard that news weeks ago.

There are a lot of men out there who pass on that kind of information as an afterthought whereas that would be the first topic of conversation for a lot of women.

It makes me feel better that my dad isn't the only one who exhibits this kind of behavior! Doesn't make it any less frustrating though.

Sounds like you need to create a "communications plan"? anonymous September 14 2008, 22:31:51 UTC
Each day call a different leaf in the "family tree"? Become the family "Paul Revere"? Use any method you can. Twitter for the computer savvy; print and post office to the offline members. In retrospect, I wish I had taken a more aggressive "communications plan" when I was in "jasper land". You can loose contact with so many people. Use this as a "call to action"? fjohn68

That's okay, my uncle didn't bother to tell anybody that he was expecting a baby until after the baby had been born. I'm pretty sure he didn't mention it to anyone in the family save for his parents/my grandparents.
