Fan Fiction terminolgy

Help me out ladies...
nsaphrodite  and I have been discussing terms used in fan fiction.

I've seen a few glosaries but they vary from person to person.  The two we're wondering about are "drabble" and "crack!fic".

And I know I've seen the term CODA in Smallville Fandom.  Any idea what it refers to?

People's definition of drabbles vary. To me it is a fic that is exactly 100 words long. Others classify anything less than 500 words as a drabble.

Crack!fic is a fic that has a plot so insane and ludicrous that you wonder whether the author was on crack when they wrote it. Generally these fics are funny and not intended to be taken seriously

A coda is a fic that acts as a missing scene for an episode of the show

thanks hils. I've seen the 100 words vs less than 500 in a few places.
As for crack!fic I always thought of it terms of a parody but your def has been a great help. :)

Hils beat me to it. But I would add that coda is a musical term referring to a concluding section, so it should be a missing scene that happens after the episode, typically. Webster.com's most relevant definition is "a concluding part of a literary or dramatic work."

I looked up "coda" and found mostly musical ref's. Thanks for the def; missing scene = conclusion makes more sense.
I wasn't able to find "coda" in any fan fic glossary but I knew I'd seen in in SV fandom. Thought it might be related only to that. You've been a great help. Thanks.

A drabble is usually under a hundred words.

crack!fic is fic where the characters are way out of the realm of thrir normal personalities, and the plots are way wild.(eg Clark and Lex ride unicorns to Mars.)

Hope this helps.
