As for me, I'm sort of on the fence. I don't like it when the show references the fans because it's hard for me to suspend my disbelief and enjoy the story when I'm so aware of the meta. I also thought it was weird that the fans were overwhelmingly male when we have an overwhelmingly female fanbase. I felt like the show made fun of itself as much as it made fun of the fans, but it still made me uncomfortable. I dunno. I wasn't expecting this type of episode. I thought we'd get something more serious after last weeks funny ep.
Apparently they are the mods on the TWOP (Television without pity) forums or something...
And I realize that a lot of people were upset about this episode. Which is fine, I still HATE Hollywood Babylon...
I didn't pick up on the male vs female fan thing because I thought the two fans dressed like Bobby and Ash were women. Also I thought I saw a few more girls in the audience, but since they were dressed like Sam and Dean it was hard to tell. Then again, that might be wishful thinking on my part.
I'm sort of on the fence about the episode. It didn't really give me warm and fuzzies but I'm not outraged either. It was hard to get sucked into the story when there was so much meta going on. That's my biggest complaint about referencing the fans on SPN, it gets me into a meta headspace and I can't chill out with Sam and Dean anymore.
