Closure commentary, part 2

One of the suggestions I got on commentary topics was a look at Spike and Buffy's relationship before the reveal. How could he be around her, pretending to be innocent, helping her with her investigation, even suggesting other suspects, knowing what he'd done?

Well, short answer: he's evil. Morality isn't quite as much of a hurdle as it would ( Read more... )

I still feel bad for Spike, LOL. There was really no good way for him to tell Buffy without her flying off the handle and staking him in the beginning, and once he started lying, he couldn't stop.

I feel bad for him, too. :) I don't know, maybe this was a stating-the-obvious kind of commentary, but somebody asked, so I answered. :)

As you explain Spike's "digging himself in deeper and deeper", the more he loves her, the more afraid he becomes of the emergence of his lie.

This commentary allowed me to have more compassion toward Spike and understand the state of his mind throughout the investigation.

Thank you! I know what you mean... don't know if you watch Mad Men, but that show is just full of characters doing wrong that you can't help but root for anyway.

I rarely have characters that I don't want people to root for - I've had people tell me in reviews that they hate Buffy or Spike or Xander or whoever, and that's never what I'm going for. Sure, they might be acting like an ass, or have done something terribly wrong, but if I'm doing my job, you should still feel for them, at least a little bit.
