So I have just finished the nearly four hours that is Wagner's Lohengrin.

I can summarize it thusly...

ACT I
Elsa: I seem to have lost my little brother, the Duke of Brabant
Telramund: Ha! The throne is mine!
Elsa: Woe!
King Heinrich of Germany: sup?
Telramund: This woman killed her bro to spite me and therefore I will not wed her. Look at my awesome new ( Read more... )

I think, my dear, that you may have a future in writing snarky Wagner summaries. Care to tackle the Ring next?

I'm glad you enjoyed it! There may be a summari of Walkure coming...

I think I will probably use a similar summary (sans profanity) when teaching opera. Because, really, that's about what this opera amounts to: the Swan music, the Act III prelude, the wedding music, and very, very little plot.

I think that's a totally valid approach to this (and a lot of other) opera(s) - the plot can so often be reduced to something short and snarky. And this is a point worth making, methinks.

I seem to remember a similar summary of War of the Worlds, which meant that I never had to see it, so I owe you yet again for saving me from hours of my life that I otherwise wouldn't get back!
