I've said it before, but I've got to say it again: I REALLY MISS the friendly-aliens movies from the 80s.
You know the ones I mean: aliens show up, turn out to be friendly, and go on rousing adventures with their new human pals. We're talkin' E.T., Flight of the Navigator, Explorers, The Last Starfighter, and Cocoon, here. Fuck, even Howard the

And then another thing I'm sick of is humanoid aliens. If I'm ever to write a sci-fi story, I'm going to make up an alien race of hyperintelligent creatures vaguely resembling some kind of fungoids. You know, like Mycon from SC2, but maybe a little more interactable.

But at least the Myanai don't walk like humans; they stand upright for a lot of things, but when they walk they do it on all-fours like a cat, kind of.
If/when humanity finds more species, they'll likely be quite a bit less humanoid, much like the Mycon or the Chenjesu or whatever...though I would need to find a way to have such alien creatures but ALSO make them likable or hateable enough to be heroes, villains, friends, etc...

I have a Starman Halloween costume. :-) It consists of several large steel marbles. :-) I like aliens that have alien motives. Contact had aliens that had grand scale motives that were simply beyond us. Starman... I think I'd have to watch it again, but mostly the motive seemed to be survival, and that's not particularly alien.
