Almost perfect!
Got a late start (about an hour and a half behind schedule), but things went pretty smooth nonetheless.
475 miles and 9 hours 33 minutes down, many more to go.
Original target goal was for just over 500 miles per day, I should be able to make up the difference in the next few days. There's a whole lot of nothing along several stretches of the road along the way, so I hopefully can avoid unnecessary distractions.
And with any luck, the next couple hotels will also have free WiFi ;)

Looking good so far.
Another 593 miles and 11 hours 14 minutes, making the totals so far 1098 miles in 20 hours 47 minutes.
Got started on time this morning, gonna have to try and get moving a little earlier tomorrow as the next leg is estimated at 614 miles (Amarillo to Flagstaff), and while I don't mind driving to 9:30pm or later, it might make getting hotels a bit tougher that time of night. At least I have the first time zone change to my advantage tomorrow.
(and once again, free WiFi!)

Just another thought that occurred to me while on the road today: traffic. There's not so much of it as I'm used to having to put up with in the Chicago area. I'm halfway through the 4th state of my trek, and only encountered moderate traffic twice so far: St. Louis at about 5pm local time, and Tulsa Oklahoma at midday.
And it's cold out. Not freezing cold yet (that'll be tonight according to the weatherman - good thing I brought a windshield scraper), but it's hardly been anything considered warm this far south of Canada. At least today wasn't as windy as yesterday.
Beautiful partly-cloudy weather yesterday, but windy as heck. Today was overcast except for a couple hours just before sunset (just in time for the sun to get in my eyes).
Tomorrow I'll be breaking into the mountains and maybe my first glimpse of desert.

Long day, lots of miles.
754 miles in 13 hours 50 minutes, bringing the total to 1822 miles in 34 hours 37 minutes. (minor correction to Day#2 post: total was 1068 miles, not 1098) Original goal was to be Flagstaff, but I overshot and landed in Phoenix. No worries there, as it means I should make it most of the way to San Diego tomorrow while the sun is still out ( ... )

Victory is mine!
The final 366.5 miles in 7 hours 19 minutes, bringing the grand total to 2188.5 miles in 41 hour 56 minutes!
Once again, beautiful weather and easy driving from the deserts of Arizona to the mountains of southern California, and I made it to my destination while the sun was still out this time.
With the road trip completed, it was definitely an interesting experience.
I wouldn't mind doing another long trek again, but preferably in a comfortable car and with more time to make the journey and see the sights. Rushing almost 2200 miles in 4 days alone in a Uhaul doesn't make for much of a vacation.

Now the real search begins -- a place to live and put my stuff.

Impressive. cryovirus November 16 2006, 04:01:21 UTC
It took me 7 days, but I was a bit less hurried and more touristy, with visits to the Arizona meteor crater, Grand Canyon, petrified forest, etc.
