Freecycle

I checked the blogs history to see if someone else has posted about this here before. I apparently fail at searching the archives because not only could I not find if anyone posted about this here, but I found every post about freecyle on every blog on LJ... even AFTER I limited the search to this community only. Freecycle rocks! franklanguage March 5 2009, 17:38:13 UTC
I joined specifically to get rid of junk that's cluttering up my place, so I don't mind that I haven't gotten too much stuff out of it. Most-requested items are paper shredders and digital cameras; some idealistic souls make very specific requests and ask that an item be in pristine condition, but hey, you get what you get.

Best of all, it makes me feel good to get rid of stuff I can't use, knowing someone who can just took it off my hands. Last week, I gave a couple of pairs of my mom's high-heeled pumps away, knowing I would never in a million years wear them again; the woman who took them was collecting them for an art project-and she lives in my neighborhood! Freecycle is cool!

I know that group!! In fact, in some ways, I know it too well... since it's all volunteer all the time. I'm owner of the group in Madison, Wisconsin. I just checked... we are pushing 16,000 members that post in excess of 2,000 posts a month, so a big, busy one at that.

If people have questions about Freecycle, I'll likely be able to answer them, from almost any perspective, since I've worked helping to set up groups and have done various things on the inter/national admin team as well as taking care of my own group.
