Hello! After years of working the same job, my mom has finally opened up to the scary idea of starting something she wants to do, something for her, something new and interesting. Right now, she's working in an office for the city and has decided she would like to start her own business. However, she doesn't know what kind! So I thought I would ( Read more... )

What is she good at,or at least comfortable with. There is a whole lot she can do/go into?

There are so many questions that come to my mind when reading your post. My first issue, though, is that her motivation for wanting to do this isn't really clear in my mind. You mention your advice to finally go for her dream but what is this dream? Is this opening a specific business or her own business in general? Is there something she particularly enjoys doing and is obviously very good at and wants to build a business around this? You also mention the issue of boredom. Could this be better addressed with a different job? Building a business can be great fun and exciting and very rewarding (on several fronts, including financial) but also has a tremendous amount of added stress, usually related to increased responsibility, uncertainty, financial strain and typically increased hours.
